Kunkel’s Studio Without Walls Takes On JBL’S LSR6300 Series Monitors

Nathaniel Kunkel, audio engineer and owner of Studio Without Walls, recently based the monitoring of his mobile studio concept around the new JBL LSR6300 Series. Transporting his studio to wherever the music takes him, Kunkel realized he needed monitoring that could provide accuracy in each new setting and therefore chose the LSR6300 system with Room Mode Correction (RMC™).

“I have used the JBL LSR Series speakers on my last two projects, and I am amazed, Kunkel said. “As my studio moves around quite a bit, being able to quickly tune the room is crucial. These speakers translate, and do it well. I have been very happy with my tracks and my mixes, in both stereo and surround. I can’t imagine working without them.”

Kunkel’s list of credits is extensive, with a slate of fine sound work done for artists such as Sting, James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Maroon 5, Sheila Nicholls, the Insane Clown Posse and Element.

The Studio Without Walls (SWW) setup features six of the LSR6328P models along with three of the LSR6312SP powered subwoofer. The RMC Calibration Kit allows a user to quickly and easily tune new loudspeakers to the specific requirements of a given room’s acoustics.

The JBL Professional LSR6328P was developed for stereo and multichannel music and post audio applications where accuracy and high SPL are required. With ruler-flat +1 dB/-1.5 dB response from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, low frequency extension to 36 Hz, boundary compensation and JBL’s new RMC system, the LSR6328P provides exceptional low frequency performance in any room. The system is bi-amped with a 250-watt LF amplifier and a 120W HF amplifier. Wall mounting provisions make the LSR6328P perfect for installation in multichannel editorial rooms.

The LSR6312SP powered subwoofer is based on a 12″ woofer with JBL’s patented Differential Drive‚ and 250 watts of power. An integral bass-management system offers all the features needed for today’s multiformat surround production including: LCR and Direct LFE inputs, summed output for chaining multiple subwoofers, -4 dB bass alignment setting and the RMC system.
“It’s really an honor to work with someone as creative and professional as Nathaniel Kunkel,” said Peter Chaikin, director, recording and broadcast, JBL Professional. “The demands he places on the system because of his studio’s mobility calls to attention the engineering achievement JBL has accomplished with the LSR6300s and the RMC system. The system’s tuneability and accuracy have helped make Nathaniel’s concept a reality.”
