ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 15, 2011—This year, Aviom (InfoComm Booth 415), the exclusive developer of the world’s most powerful audio transport protocol, A-Net®, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and a milestone 100,000 Personal Mixers sold to date.
Aviom first introduced its digital audio protocol, A-Net®, in 2001, along with the company’s first Aviom A-16 Personal Mixer. In the 10 years since the first A-16 found its way onto a church platform, Aviom has quickly become the industry standard for personal mixing solutions, fielding more than 100,000 personal mixers throughout the world.
Today, Aviom’s A-16II Personal Mixer, fondly identified by many as the “little blue mixer, can be found in houses of worship, on stages, in theaters, in the studio and even as a regular piece of many broadcast setups. Not only have musicians around the world discovered the
magic of controlling their own mixes, but sound engineers have realized the benefits as well, resulting in satisfied performers and engineers who have more time to focus on front of house sound.
“When we were getting started, we had a clear vision of how the personal mixer would help musicians on stage by giving them control of their monitor mixes, says Aviom’s President and CEO, Carl Bader, who spent many years before his corporate days as a drummer playing the Philadelphia club scene. “Since we introduced the Aviom Personal Mixer, we have been amazed by all the applications over the years—from lowering stage volume in houses of worship to its role as a production tool on the set of reality television shows.
A common problem for churches is the excessive stage volume that diminishes clarity in the sanctuary. Lowering the stage volume is a simple task with Aviom Personal Mixing Systems, which can remedy the issue regardless of size or venue. Over the years, Aviom Personal Mixers have been installed in houses of worship all over the United States, including Georgia’s North Metro Church, Oklahoma’s Victory Church, Colorado’s New Life Church and New Jersey’s Evangel Church. The mixers can also be found at two Houston, Texas churches – Fellowship of the Woodlands and Lakewood Church, in addition to hundreds of other worship facilities around the world.
Similarly, the company’s A-16II Personal Mixers have proven to be a solution on a variety of stages, ranging from high schools and universities to Las Vegas shows and Broadway, where they are almost always used in the orchestra pit. The A-16 Personal Mixer made its first foray on the Great White Way in late 2003, where it debuted on the set of Little Shop of Horrors. Since then, the A-16II has been used during production of Broadway’s Promises, Promises; Come Fly Away and La Cage aux Folles. The personal mixer was also relied on in 2007 during San Diego’s Birch North Park Theatre’s production of Love In: The Musical, a theatrical celebration of the music from 1967. In Las Vegas, the Pro16 Personal Mixer has been found on the set of Legends in Concert at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino, Hairspray at Luxor and Manilow: Music and Passion, starring Barry Manilow at the Las Vegas Hilton.
While the Aviom Personal Mixers are often relied on in fixed installation settings, they have also been known to throw a great house party, or in some cases, a White House Party, such as President Barack Obama’s 2009 Inaugural Ball. Installed previously by ATK for the Democratic National Convention, the company knew that the personal mixers would also make the perfect party guest for the inauguration. The personal mixing system put on another good show in 2009 during the 81st Academy Awards, hosted by Hugh Jackman.
Like many other reliable pieces of audio gear, the Aviom mixers have also hit the road over the years with famous musicians, such as internationally renowned rock groups Aerosmith and Linkin Park, the Charlie Hall Band and abbacadabra – The Ultimate ABBA Tribute Band. Local groups such as alternative rock band Candlebox, Nashville-based rock band Jars of Clay and Colorado’s funk sensation, Funkiphino have continued to call on Aviom personal mixers. Musicians and audio crew members on Michael Bublé’s 2010 international “Crazy Love and 2007 “Call Me Irresponsible tours were “crazy about the Pro16 Personal Mixers. In 2007, Hall & Oates relied on the mixers to treat a rain-soaked Independence Day crowd to a 90-minute performance of their greatest hits—a performance that was also broadcast live on ABC.
Within the broadcast industry Aviom mixers have come to not only aid musicians on shows such as American Idol, Don’t Forget the Lyrics and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, but they are used behind the scenes on various reality TV shows to monitor multiple audio feeds from different locations on set. In 2005, an Aviom Personal Mixing System was used by Nueva Voces de America, a Latin-American reality music competition show filmed in Miami, to process the audio signal for the production team. Other reality TV productions that have made use of the A-16II Personal Mixers include ABC’s The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Here Come the Newlyweds; VH-1’s Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, Charm School and Celebrity Rehab; MTV’s Making the Band; Nick@Nite’s Funniest Mom in America; TV Land’s She’s Got the Look and Food Network’s Chopped.
World-class studios around the globe have also come to rely on Aviom Personal Mixers to make sessions smooth. Within the U.S., systems can be found at Cincinnati’s Bamboo Room Studio; Cotton Hill Studios in Albany, NY and Paragon Studios in Franklin, TN. Other U.S. studios include Interscope Studios, Soundcheck Nashville and Bismeaux Studio.
