August 10, 2026 (Asheville, NC) — The Bob Moog Foundation is excited to announce its upcoming YouTube premiere of a never-before-seen interview between the lauded, late sound designer Frank Serafine and Bob Moog. The brief but insightful 17-minute interview was recorded early in the morning at the Moog Music NAMM booth in January 2003. The premiere takes place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 5 PM (ET) on the Bob Moog Foundation’s YouTube channel, in conjunction with the twentieth anniversary of the Bob Moog Foundation and the twenty-first anniversary of Bob Moog’s untimely passing. In the interview, Serafine explores the trajectory of Moog’s career, as well as some probing questions about what lies ahead for electronic music. The interview ends with Moog giving a demonstration of the then newly released Minimoog Voyager.

Frank Serafine was a visionary sound designer, sound editor, and influential audio innovator. He is best known for his work as a sound editor and sound designer on films including the Star Trek and Tron series, The Addams Family, The Fog, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, Hoodwinked 2, Field of Dreams, and many more. He received an Emmy Award for Sound Design on The Day After (1983) and an Academy Award for Best Sound for The Hunt for Red October (1990).
In addition to his acclaimed film work, Serafine was an accomplished musician and composer. He collaborated with legendary artists such as Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, Andy Summers, Peter Gabriel, and Don Cherry. A pioneer in digital sampling and sound technology, Serafine was also a lifelong enthusiast and expert in the evolution of electronic instruments. His passion for innovation helped shape the early digital sampling era, particularly through his work with E-mu Systems and his enduring admiration for the Emulator II.
Serafine died suddenly in a tragic accident in 2018.
Bob Moog and his respective companies were regular exhibitors or attendees at NAMM for nearly 50 years. This interview was filmed in 2003, a momentous year for both Moog and his company, as it marked the first year that Moog Music exhibited since the 1980s. Prior to that, Moog had been operating under the Big Briar, Inc., name. In 2002, Moog won back the right to use his name after an extensive legal battle, and his company changed from Big Briar to Moog Music. The Minimoog Voyager was released later that year.
