Nation’s largest country music festival commits to L-ACOUSTICS for three years
OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — More than 150,000 people recently flocked to the 300-acre Ford Festival Park in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the 15th annual Country USA music festival. With five non-stop days of performances — rain or shine — from some of country music’s biggest names, there was no shortage of world-class talent, enthusiastic fans or hard-working loudspeakers, which included nearly 80 L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC enclosures.
Named by the Weather Channel as one of the nation’s top three outdoor festivals, Country USA 2010 featured performances from the likes of Blake Shelton, Travis Tritt, Terri Clark, Toby Keith, Jack Ingram, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Zac Brown and many others.
According to David Stern at Tempe, Arizona-based Precise Corporate Staging (PCS), which won Country USA’s production bid for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 festivals, the main stage PA and monitor systems were entirely comprised of loudspeakers and amplifiers from L-ACOUSTICS.
On each side of the massive 150-foot stage, PCS flew a FOH array of 15 V-DOSC with three dV-DOSC down-fills, plus an additional hang of 12 V-DOSC for out-fill. Four delay towers — each made up of six V-DOSC — were spread out in an arc throughout the crowd for delay reinforcement.
Six dV-DOSC flown from the middle of the front truss provided center-fill, with four more dV-DOSC positioned across the lip of the stage for front-fill. Twelve SB218 sub enclosures ground-stacked per side delivered the LF kick for the festival, augmented by eight dV-SUB boxes flown above.
On stage, a total of 18 coaxial 115XT HiQ wedges served as stage monitors delivering up to a dozen mixes for the artists. Drum monitoring was accomplished via an additional 115XT HiQ stacked atop a pair of SB118 subs. Four ARCS enclosures plus two more SB118 per side provided side-fill for the stage area. All loudspeakers — FOH, delay and monitors — were driven by L-ACOUSTICS’ LA Series amplifiers.
“We use V-DOSC for big events like this because, in my opinion, it’s simply the best cabinet out there,” says Stern. “I rarely have to spend time EQing the PA — it’s a wonderfully flat box — and any time we advance a show with the bands and their engineers, everyone is always thrilled to see V-DOSC on the list. It’s a quality product.”
