TC Electronic Announces LM2 Loudness, True-Peak Level Meter

TC Electronic states that its new LM2 stereo loudness and true-peak level meter ($1,800 MSRP), introduced at the recently concluded IBC show, conforms to the latest American, Japanese and European broadcast standards. The LM2 enables precision normalization and optimum use of dialnorm metadata in AC3 transmission in order to avoid level jumps between regular programming and promos or commercials, and is designed for use in post-production, live production, broadcast ingest, linking and transmission.

LM2 also offers automatic level offset of programs at synchronous, 48-bit, fixed-point engine resolution. It includes a precision true-peak limiter to avoid output overload when positive gain normalization is required. For normalizing speech, LM2 allows users to measure a segment of regular dialog as a reference for normalization. Otherwise, LM2’s relative gate function automatically handles all sources, and presets are included.

The LM2’s front panel displays critical information. The unit also connects to a PC or Mac via USB to offer a full, real-time Radar screen display via the included Icon application, as well as logging, remote control and preset management.

LM2 comes with factory presets compliant with new guidelines, including ITU-R BS.1770, ATSC A/85, EBU R128, NABJ, OP-59 and BCAP. TC Electronic states that LM2 is field-upgradeable and “will keep compliant with global practices as they refine.”

LM2 offers 24-bit resolution audio inputs and outputs: AES/EBU, TOSlink, SPDIF/AES3 id, ADAT and analog. Digital I/Os are fully synchronous while analog I/Os are scaled in the analog domain for maximum use of converter dynamic range. Analog inputs can be trimmed with 0.01dB precision.

TC Electronic is offering a 5-year warranty for the LM2. Find out more about the TC Electronic LM2.
