MusicBox Names Publishing Music Executive Jonathan Firstenberg as Senior Vice President

Calabasas, CA, Oct 19, 2009 — MusicBox, a leading music production company that provides over 10,000 cuts from its original music catalog, as well as original composition and scoring, to television programs, promos, feature and documentary films, trailers, and commercials, has named Jonathan Firstenberg, as Senior Vice President, a newly created position.

ABOUT JONATHAN FIRSTENBERG:

          The winner of three Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Composition and Music Supervision,” Jonathan Firstenberg is renowned in the music industry for his keen sense in recognizing the musical needs of producers, directors and music supervisors.  

          Prior to joining MusicBox, Firstenberg was Vice President, Business Development and Creative Director, with Universal Music Group, where he created the Universal Music Publishing Library (UMPL). Tapping the talents of artists signed to the Universal Music Publishing roster, he developed a diverse and artist-driven catalog featuring some of the biggest names in music, and forged inter-division licensing, distribution and new business opportunities across Vivendi-owned companies including Universal Music Publishing Group, Activision/Blizzard, Vivendi Entertainment, Vivendi Games, Ingrooves, Universal Music Enterprises and Universal Music Group Distribution.  

          Responsible for catalog acquisition, he brought in the reality-based music catalog of Tangerine Dream co-founder Christopher Franke. As Vice President, Business Development for Universal Publishing Production Music (UPPM), he initiated and managed the transformation of the UPPM libraries Firstcom, Killer Tracks, Network and Master Source, from a B2B model to consumer e-Albums, with distribution on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster and other digital music providers.

          Earlier, while working for Zomba Music as Executive Producer, Creative Manager, he opened and managed Bruton’s U.S. office with the purpose of expanding the primarily UK library catalog to include music from American artists, songwriters and composers. He started the division BrutonSongs, which was one of the first library catalogs comprised of original songs. 

          Firstenberg, a classically trained musician, originally made his mark performing and composing, eventually becoming Music Supervisor and/or composer for such daytime TV dramas as General Hospital, All My Children, Santa Barbara,Guiding Light, Days Of Our Lives and Another World, as well as for television series airing on HBO and Discovery.
