RTE Radio (Dublin), the Irish public service broadcaster, has ordered two Studer OnAir 3000 digital mixing consoles to be installed later this summer.
One 24-fader Studer is destined for RTE’s main studios in Dublin. The smaller 18-fader configuration will be installed in RTE’s regional center in Galway, Ireland, for use with the broadcaster’s Gaelic service. The Studers will replace the studios’ “aging” Calrec Compact analog desks, according to Mike O’Rourke, head of technology at RTE’s radio division.
Introduced late last year, the OnAir 3000 offers a design based on a completely modular desk and fan-less S-Core DSP engine. The standard fader module is comprised of six channel strips, and up to eight modules may be fitted, providing a maximum console size of 48 faders. Layout options range from a comprehensive engineer-operated continuity console to a single fader panel for DJ and newsroom use, or a PC-operated system with no physical desk controls.
The console offers three main stereo mix buses (PRG A, PRG B and REC) plus an audition facility, four stereo aux buses, 16 mix-minus sends configurable as auxes and three independent studio monitoring/talkback circuits, including two PFL circuits for split desk operation. Individual channels are each equipped with four-band parametric EQ, full dynamics (limiter, compressor, expander, gate), de-esser, HPF and comprehensive input/output routing.
