Mix Sound for Film & TV Keynote Conversation Announced!

Award-winning composer and 2x Oscar-winning supervising sound editor sit down to talk about “Fear, Tension and the Psychology of Sound.”

Tyler Bates, Karen Baker Landers to kick off Mix Sound for Film & TV Event

Culver City, CA (August 27, 2026)—The 13th annual Mix Presents Sound for Film & Television event, featuring an inside track on The Sound of Horror, will open with a special Keynote Conversation titled “Fear, Tension and the Psychology of Sound,” as Mix sits down with two of the best in the business: Award-winning composer, producer and rock ‘n’ roll musician Tyler Bates and double Oscar-winning supervising sound editor Karen Baker Landers.

The Keynote Conversation will take place on Saturday, September 26, as the opening act in the all-day event, held in the  world-renowned sound editing and re-recording facilities of Host Partner Sony Pictures Studios, Culver City, Calif. Other presentations in the popular Mix Panel Series include “World-Building for Spider-Man: The Marriage of Sound FX & Foley” and “The Sound of Horror.”

“Psychologial thrillers, supernatural dramas, horror films—they are a staple of the American moviegoing experience, and they’ve been huge at the box office this year,” says Tom Kenny, co-editor of Mix. “People like to see them in theaters, and part of that is so that they can experience big, scary sounds as they are meant to be heard. Tyler and Karen—representing music and sound effects—are two of the best in the world at creating tension, thrills and shocks through the use of sound. This should be a fun discussion.”
