Once, Starcatcher Take Sound Tony Awards

At Sunday night’s 2012 Tony Awards, Broadway sound designers Clive Goodwin and Darron L. West won the Best Sound Design of a Musical and Play Awards, respectively, for “Once” and “Peter and the Starcatcher.”

New York, NY (June 11, 2012)—At Sunday night’s 2012 Tony Awards, Broadway sound designers Clive Goodwin and Darron L. West won the Best Sound Design of a Musical and Play Awards, respectively, for Once and Peter and the Starcatcher.

Unusually for the sound categories, both winners were also first-time nominees. West’s previous Broadway credits include Chinglish and others, while Goodwin’s efforts on Once marked his Broadway debut as a sound designer.

Both productions led their respective fields for nominations—Peter and the Starcatcher was in the running for nine awards, while Once led all musicals with 11 noms. Once wound up taking home a few other trophies, including Best Musical, Best Director (John Tiffany) and Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Steve Kazee). The annual event was held at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, and was hosted by TV actor Neil Patrick Harris.
