KV2 Audio introduced the new EX 12 active full-range speaker system at the recent PLASA show in London. In development for the past two years, KV2’s goal was to create a speaker that would “redefine the 12-inch, two-way category.”
KV2’s Marcelo Vercelli explains: “The EX 12 is a high-precision, high-performance speaker aimed at installed sound contractors, rental companies, churches and the A/V industry who need a product that will deliver absolute clarity and resolution, along with throw and wide coverage.”
For the bass/low mid, a 12-inch Transcoil design eliminates voice coil inductance, resulting in a much better transient response, increased dynamic range and significantly lower distortion.
The compression driver is a new 3-inch titanium-diaphragm design. Through the use of Nitrate Vapor Particle Development (VPD), an additional layer of material is fused to the titanium at the molecular level. This improves the resonance characteristics, resulting in lower distortion artifacts and an improved frequency response.
The EX 12 horn was designed to be smooth within its operating bandwidth and to display perfect response alongside the 12-inch Transcoil woofer. The mechanical design allows the horn to be rotated 90 degrees for horizontal use.
Capable of 127dB sustained output, the EX12 is compact yet powerful for its size. To achieve this, KV2 have designed the amplifiers to perfectly match the transducers. A 450-watt high-efficiency/low-frequency amplifier and a 50-watt low-intermodulation distortion-class A/B high-frequency amplifier create a seamless full-range system. The EX12 extreme dynamic range is maintained even under clipping conditions, providing clear, ripple-free performance.
