Walton-on-Thames, UK (October 9, 2026)—The Scout Motto is “Be Prepared”—but admittedly few Scouts can claim to be ready to mix broadcast audio. That might just change, however, if Andrew Kemp has any say about the matter.
Kemp is a veteran, UK-based broadcast engineer, with more than a quarter-century of experience in linear and non-linear TV playout, video-on-demand, post-production, asset management, logistics and media workflow. However, he’s also a volunteer Scouting supporter who has been helping young people gain broadcast-related skills.

As part of that, he’s been using a dhd.audio 10-fader SX2 audio mixer and XS3 processing core, plus a Dante multichannel audio-over-IP interface as the basis of a transportable media-training resource for scout events.
“Our first project with the new mixer was at the Surrey Scouts SCRAM 2026 event in Walton-on-Thames,” says Kemp. “The SX2 enabled young scout leaders to gain experience in audio media production. It also allowed Cub Scouts and Brownies to gain confidence in live audio presentation—in this case with everything relayed on a site-wide public-address system. The mixer proved an ideal training resource and encouraged the user team to propose ideas for future events.”

The set up also used DHD’s Views App which allows the mixer controls to be supervised and adjusted on a touchscreen tablet or computer screen. Because the software is versatile and has a small learning curve, it was appropriate for the young users, and has proven itself easy to transport for deployment at outdoor events.
DHD’s SX2 audio mixer is based on a 4-fader central panel plus an optional number of expansion modules. Each SX2 module can be used standalone or combined with others to create a single console. The central panel gives access to the most important audio inputs and outputs. A microphone input and headphone output are also included. Loudspeakers can be connected directly—much as they were at the Surrey Scouts SCRAM 2026 event.
