Abbey Road’s Mew Retires

Abbey Road’s mastering engineer Peter Mew, who worked on albums including The Beatles’ 1 and Paul McCartney’s Wingspan: Hits and History, retired August 29, capping a 48-year career.

London, UK (September 10, 2013)—Abbey Road’s mastering engineer Peter Mew, who worked on albums including The Beatles’ 1 and Paul McCartney’s Wingspan: Hits and History, retired August 29, capping a 48-year career .

Mew joined the studio in 1965 and worked as a stereo and surround sound mastering engineer for CD, DVD and SACD, having helped pioneer the CD preparation installation in the studio during the 1980s. His CV spans all genres of music, from pop to opera to rock, and he worked with such artists as Queen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, and Deep Purple.

Abbey Road Studios honored Mew in a volley of Tweets, noting, “Having worked with artists including The Beatles & Pink Floyd, Peter’s been at Abbey Road so long that he’s employee no. 001 on our payroll!”
