Santa Cruz, CA (May 6, 2015)—Legendary producer/engineer Alan Parsons has resumed his series of recording Master Class Training Sessions, having held a two-day event in Mexico City in April and now heading later this month to RaxTrax in Chicago, IL.
The most recent MCTS was held in Mexico City at Estudio Piajet on the main campus of Tec de Monterrey, a private university offering music production courses. More than 400 students attended the two-day recording session, a third of them present on-site and involved in a 30-person switcheroo from control room with Parsons to seating in an adjoining studio encircling the live room. The remainder attended the event via a live video and audio feed. Additionally, the event was live on MusiciansGuild.com, enabling Tec students, regardless of their location, to ask questions and post images and videos.
The band for the event was Latin Grammy-nominated Tren A Marte, an eclectic seven piece led by brothers Edgar and Alan García. In two days, Parsons and Tren A Marte, with substantial hands-on involvement from the student body, recorded and mixed “Yo Querio” comprising a full rhythm section, acoustic guitar, keyboards, violin, cello, two lead vocals and backing vocals, the latter inclusive of Parsons himself.
Students got to participate in all stages and processes, and got to witness a mic shoot-out between the new Rode NTR Active Ribbon mic and a Neumann U87, got up close and personal with Parsons’ special edition MikTek C5 on the recording of violin and cello, and more.
May 31 will find Parsons in Chicago for a one-day MCTS at RaxTrax studios, recording local songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Chris Seibold and his eclectic band Pyscles. The session will included unusual instruments such as mountain dulcimer and mandocello in the recording line up.
