A recent study by Carnegie Mellon, Stanford and Berkeley Lab (sponsored by Microsoft and Intel) found that, in general, the transition to digital media was healthier for the environment — as opposed to creating hard CDs — as a download consumes far less energy, produces less carbon emissions and results in less plastic trash.
