Nashville, TN (September 23, 2008)–The Music Engineering and Technology Alliance (METAlliance) has announced certification of the R-122V vacuum tube ribbon microphone, designed and manufactured by Royer Labs, a METAlliance Pro Partner. The alliance is working with manufacturers to evaluate, recognize, and certify products, which meet the call for quality in the recording arts and science.

Producer/engineer Phil Ramone remarked, “I look for mics that match the moment, and a good ribbon finds a place in much of my work. This new Royer is outstanding.” Producer/engineer Ed Cherney added, “I really appreciate the added gain–I don’t have to crank the mic pres. Electric guitars have never been easier to capture. Trumpet and trombone players have never been easier to please.” Producer/engineer George Massenburg’s comment: “As flexible and consistent a microphone in any technology as I’ve had the pleasure of using.”

Producer/engineer Elliot Scheiner tested the microphone and made this evaluation: “The Royer R-122V is without a doubt the most beautiful ribbon mic I’ve ever used. I’ve managed to find a place for it on every tracking session I’ve done in the past six months.” Chuck Ainlay remarked, “The original 122 is one of my favorite ribbon mics, but after using the 122V I am convinced that tubes rule.” Al Schmitt added: “These are the best ribbon mics I’ve ever worked with.”
