SSL Upgrade For Dodangoda

Cardiff, Wales-based producer Romesh Dodangoda recently upgraded to SSL Alpha-Link audio converters.

Oxford, UK (November 7, 2011)—Cardiff, Wales-based producer Romesh Dodangoda recently upgraded to SSL Alpha-Link audio converters.

Dodangoda counts the likes of Motorhead, Lost Prophets, Funeral For A Friend and Kids In Glass Houses amongst his client list. “Everything I record goes through Alpha-Link. I’d heard about people ditching their interfaces and replacing them with Alpha-Link, so I asked SSL to send me one and it was exactly what I needed.”

He continues, “The sound of those converters is just brilliant. There’s nothing out there that does 24 channels of I/O in such a small box, so when I travel to different studios, taking my rig is so much easier. And with that sound quality…well, it was a no-brainer for me.”

Dodangoda has other “classic” bits of SSL gear in his studio, even if those classics have been revamped. “I also have the 1U rack version of the G Series Bus Compressor and SSL’s Duende plug-ins. The Bus Compressor pretty much lives on my master bus. I love this compressor. Just look at how many records have been done on SSL consoles or used their gear, it’s a pretty long list!

“So I basically have the Bus Compressor hard-wired to a pair of I/O and then I can insert it into my session wherever I like. I tend to set it to 4:1 with a slow/medium attack. The release time will depend on what kind of song it is, but it’s usually set fast. That tends to gel my mixes together really well and makes balancing the whole song a bit easier. I mix through it, I don’t add it on afterwards.”
