UK’s Monnow Valley Studios for Sale

Monnow Valley Studios, which recorded Black Sabbath, Oasis, Robert Plant and others, will be redeveloped if it isn’t sold by February

Wales, UK (December 19, 2019) — Monnow Valley Studios, which has recorded the likes of Black Sabbath, Oasis, Tom Jones, Robert Plant and others since opening in 1975, has been put on the market with a deadline in mind. If the residential studio and its 2.5-acre riverside property don’t sell by February, the current owners plan to redevelop the land.

Some of the studio’s recording equipment will be included with the house, and depending on the offer, various items from a cache of vintage audio equipment currently used there that is owned by noted engineer Andrew Scheps (Adele, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Justin Timberlake) could be included, including the studio’s current console—a vintage 64-channel Neve 8068 Mk II with flying faders. The vintage gear was collected by Scheps from notable studios such as Sound City, Ocean Way Recording and Signet Soundelux.

The studio famously featured on the cover of Oasis’ debut single, “Supersonic,” which sent the band to the top of the charts in April, 1994. The piano appearing in the photo later sold for $17,000 at auction.

Other acts over the years that have recorded there include Stereophonics, Pulp, Simple Minds, Manic Street Preachers, Joss Stone, The Charlatans, Levellers, Editors, Biffy Clyro, Marti Pellow, Feeder, Busted, Laura Marling, Iggy Azalea, Idles, Kaiser Chiefs, Twin Peaks, Badly Drawn Boy, Editors, The Alarm, The Cult and others.

The residential facility features ten bedrooms, eight bathrooms, two living rooms, a dining room and two kitchens. Meanwhile, the studios, attached to the house, include a live room, control room, machine room and amp room. Elsewhere on the property, a converted coach house features a gym and art studio.
