Motion Picture Sound Editors Announce 2013 Golden Reel Winners

On February 17, 2013, the Motion Picture Sound Editors presented the 60th MPSE Golden Reel Awards at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in Los Angeles. Bobbi Banks, now in her eighth year as MPSE President, opened the awards ceremony, which recognized outstanding achievement in sound editing in 22 categories.

Director Ang Lee was honored with the Filmmaker Award. It was presented by his Life of Pi collaborators, and current Academy Award nominees: editor Tim Squyres, visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer and cinematographer Claudio Miranda.

Foley artist John Roesch received the MPSE’s 2013 Career Achievement Award. It was presented by Charles L. Campbell, the 2012 recipient of the award. Roesch is the first Foley artist to receive MPSE’s Career Achievement Award.

Supervising sound editors Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl awarded a special scholarship in the name of the late Oscar-winning sound editor Mike Hopkins. Other presenters included sound artists Jeremy J. Gordon, Joanie Diener, Frank Morrone, Sam Crutcher, Charlie Crutcher, Mark Lanza, Mandell Winter, Glenn T. Morgan, Ben Wilkins, Cece Hall, and Doc Kane.
