HHB’s PortaDrive location in New Zealand

Steve Buckland and Mike Westgate of film sound specialists Sound Techniques recently received their first HHB PortaDrive location sound recorder.

An experienced sound mixer with many New Zealand films, documentaries, commercials, U.S. TV productions and Cousteau international expeditions to his credit, Westgate put the new PortaDrive straight into service on E.S, a film written and directed by Zia Mandviwalla. The film depicts the simple life of a Korean couple and contains minimal dialog and no music, relying on high-quality sound effects to set the mood and support powerful images captured on a new Kodak film stock.

“At last, a machine that has a confident and solid feel!” enthused Westgate. “The clarity of the displays, the
logical access to everything, instant review of the last take and stunning sound quality, there is nothing that the PortaDrive fails to offer. I listened to all the production recordings after the shoot and the PortaDrive had accurately captured all the nuances of the stereo microphones perfectly.”
