Spanish Reality Show Nuevas Voces de America Uses Aviom Digital Snake

Ulises Otero, live sound engineer for the TV program Nuevas Voces de America (New Voices of America), was looking for a new high-tech way to process the audio signal for the Latin music reality show and discovered Aviom Inc., manufacturer of the Pro16 Monitor Mixing System and modular digital snake products. The show is taped weekly in Miami.

“I came across the Aviom system while reading an industry magazine,” says Otero, also owner and president of Roxy Productions. “I was anxious to try it out on the reality show we film for Telemundo, since we need equipment that will be easy to set up and break down every week. The Aviom gear, which uses a sleek Cat-5 cable up to 500 feet long, is really a space and time-saver. We’re able to put everything together and take it apart in a matter of minutes.”

The Aviom digital snake carries 48-channels of audio in various directions over one Cat-5 cable and is a wonderful addition to the shows list of gear, which includes a Yamaha DM2000 to mix the live audio. During several tapings, live bands perform using Aviom’s Personal Mixers that are connected to the AVIOM16/o-Y1 output card, which is inserted into an expansion slot in the rear of the console.

“I am excited to be a part of this show,” comments Otero. “I had worked with the Gloria Estefan Production Group in the past, so the show’s producers knew I had the experience in live sound. I chose the Aviom gear because we have one cable processing all the signals. We are currently using Aviom’s AN-16/i-m Mic Input Module and AN-16/o Output Module, which are used for all tapings. The Aviom gear not only helps us save time, but it also sounds great. It really is a pristine system.”

Produced by Latin music mogul Emilio Estefan, this exciting reality show was designed to identify the next Latin superstar, and debuted as a weekly show on Telemundo earlier this year. Judges evaluate each participant’s onstage work and weekly progress. Each Sunday, two of the finalists are threatened with elimination but TV viewers have the final say by voting via telephone or text message to determine who remains in the competition with the opportunity to become the new Latin voice of America. The final winner of Nuevas Voces de America will receive a grand prize that includes a $250,000 record company contract.
