SNS globalSAN X-16

Studio Network Solutions (SNS) announced the release of globalSAN X-8 and X-16, a fully configured iSCSI SAN solutions to support Macintosh and Windows, at AES in San Francisco. The globalSAN X-8 is an eight-bay, four-user package with 2 Terabytes of high-performance SATA storage. globalSAN X-16 is a 16-bay, six-user package with 4 Terabytes of high-performance SATA storage. Both systems include licenses of iSANmp volume-sharing software and both can be upgraded to support additional users/storage.

globalSAN X-8 and X-16 employ iSCSI to enable an IP-based storage area network. The technology enables a high-speed, lower-cost storage solution that is capable of spanning nearly any IP network. To take the globalSAN line of multiplatform products from concept to reality, SNS created an iSCSI initiator for the Mac.

The 4-Terabyte globalSAN X-16 is rated to deliver 32 streams of DV or eight streams of uncompressed SD video using Final Cut Pro. (Specifications based on a PowerMac G5 dual 2.0 GHz, 1.5GB RAM, iSANmp and optional high-performance Gigabit Ethernet adapter from SNS. Storage capacities shown are pre-formatted/raw capacity.) The 2 Terabyte globalSAN X-8 is rated to deliver 128 tracks of 24-bit/48k playback per workstation using Pro Tools. Either system can be upgraded to support additional users.
