AC HILTON IS ‘IN THE GAME’ WITH YAMAHA PM5D DIGITAL CONSOLES

─New Console at Front of House Joins PM5D Monitor Console─

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.──The Atlantic City Hilton recently installed a new Yamaha PM5D digital audio console for front of house use in their entertainment venue. A spectacular state-of-the-art venue built to showcase the talents of celebrity entertainers, the theater boasts a seating capacity of over 1,400. The console was purchased by Yamaha dealer, ACIR Professional in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. “We are extremely happy that the Hilton decided to purchase a second Yamaha PM5D, states John Grasso, ACIR Pro co-owner. “This console is so popular and familiar, that it’s a breeze to set up a show for visiting engineers. The Hilton knows that if they have any questions about the console, we’re right around the corner and there to assist.

The Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort has charmed the southernmost end of the world’s famous Boardwalk since opening as the Golden Nugget in December 1980. The property was the first in Atlantic City to be built from the ground up as a luxury casino hotel with award-winning accommodations, five-star dining, world-class entertainment, and 10 ’til night life. Recent acts to appear at the Hilton Theater include Patti LaBelle, Kool & the Gang, KC & the Sunshine Band, Jerry Seinfeld, Damon Wayans, Sinbad, Gin Blossoms, Grand Funk Railroad, The Four Tops, and many more. The theater also has a very popular series of ‘Legends’ shows including an upcoming tribute to Billy Joel.

The theater’s audio staff consisting of Kevin Kelly, lead audio technician, and Joe White, monitor engineer, had until recently been renting a PM5D from ACIR Pro, and made the decision to purchase a PM5D due to the amount rider requests for the console. The new console joins a PM5D already positioned at monitors. “We chose PM5Ds for a variety of reasons: the flexibility, reliability and sound make the console a pleasure to work on and the company’s tech support system is excellent,â€? states Kelly. “This console is usually on every rider so most of the incoming engineers have their show on a card. If they don’t, it doesn’t take that long to set it up.â€?

“On a side note, adds Kelly, “I still use my Yamaha ProMix01 digital console, which has to be at least 15 years old and still works perfectly. Yamaha has been in the digital console business longer than anyone and have learned from engineers what people want in a console.

“The PM5D monitor board has been fantastic, says Joe White, monitor engineer. “The Hilton has a very diverse entertainment schedule and the room works six to seven nights a week including rock and production shows and large orchestras. We have come up with templates that we use for monitors that have all the patching and routing along with EQ which saves a great deal of time to get in and out of all the different shows we handle. For the large production shows, everything is scene-generated which is fantastic on a fast-paced show. By saving the show on a card, we are up and running in no time at all. The PM5D has been a real workhorse for us; it’s very flexible, easy to learn, and use. We’ve used the monitor console for 250 shows without one glitch. And, on top of that, the desk really sounds great.
