Bill Smith, Audio Engineer/Archivist – Part 1 of 2 – Insights In Sound 219 S22 E9

Multi-Grammy Nominated Recording Engineer Bill Smith is one of the Zeligs of the audio world – he seems to pop up everywhere. Working with engineering yogis like Al Schmitt and Geoff Emerick…recording sessions at studios in every corner of the world….and legendary artists from every corner of popular music including Rod Stewart, YES, Diana Krall, Toto, Natalie Cole, George Benson, John Fogerty, Barbara Streisand, Trevor Horn, Steve Lukather, Whitney Houston and so many more.

We met up with the elusive engineer and audio nerd for an extended foray into his 40+ year career. We talked about his history as a recording engineer, his audio archiving & restoration work and went down a few techno-dweeb rabbit holes…two hours of conversation that still didn’t cover everything. This is part one of two parts. (There might be a third coming…)
