- Nashville engineer/producer Derek West chooses Carl Tatz Design a second time to create his stunning new personal studio -

Nashville, TN: Having moved his family into a more spacious home in a bucolic country setting outside of metro Nashville, engineer/producer Derek West once again chose Carl Tatz Design LLC, the TEC Award-winning studio designer, to create this new ambitious personal studio, known as “Fly By West.” This very unique facility was retrofitted into a large unused boat garage with unusually high ceilings.

Where West’s former studio consisted of a compact control room and booth, the new studio features a full-sized custom application of the CTD MixRoom™ concept, which pairs the Carl Tatz Signature Series™ acoustic modules by Auralex® with the unrivaled accuracy and performance of the PhantomFocus™ System (PFS™) monitor tuning protocol.

The Fly By West tracking room's multi-angled twenty-foot high knotty pine, tongue-in-groove ceilings are shared with a multi-purpose loft that is reached via a wrought iron spiral staircase. The loft area can be used by out-of-town clients for stay-over projects and offers great acoustic variety when tracking. The uniquely positioned overdub booths at the control room's rear attest to West's preferred M.O.

"The work that Carl did this time to create our new studio can be best described as transformational. With his design expertise we were able to take an old boat garage and transform it into a space that combines acoustic recording excellence, creative design, functional workflow, and of course, with the PhantomFocus System, a control room that competes sonically with any in the world," states Fly By West owner Derek West. "I could not be happier with the studio – and the responses I get from client after client are not only complimentary about the space and sound, but more importantly, they tell us that 'this is a space that I want to work in again.'"
