WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, July 2, 2014 — Heitor Pereira knows how to write music. He’s written plenty of it for hit films including Despicable Me and The Smurfs (and both of their sequels), It’s Complicated and others. And the former guitarist for Simply Red has played his axe on the soundtracks to dozens of major films such as The Simpsons Movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Shrek 2. He works out of a five-room studio complex that’s part of noted film composer Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions facility in Los Angeles, and Pereira’s studio has been almost completely outfitted by Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, including a full-blown Avid Pro Tools HDX DAW, multiple Apple Mac computers, keyboards and guitars, and software including Cubase, Logic and dozens of sound libraries. Earlier this year, Pereira focused his talent and technology on a project for America SCORES, a program that serves urban youth in under-resourced public schools, in a partnership with ASCAP’s Songwriter Residency, an annual mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students around the country. These programs brought Pereira together with 20 sixth-grade students from the Los Angeles area, and they jointly composed “World Cup, It’s Time!” a song being used to promote America SCORES programs during World Cup events in June and July.

“This was an amazing experience,” says Brazilian-born Pereira of his time writing and recording the soccer-themed track. “Ninety percent of the equipment in my studio was purchased through GC Pro and [Account Manager] Derek Snyder there has been an amazing professional resource and has also become a close friend over the years. He was the one who showed me around Los Angeles when I moved here from England, and he’s the person I go to whenever I need anything – literally anything – for my studio. Like everyone at GC Pro, he shows total respect for artistry and musicianship. It’s not just all about the gear — it’s about people and music. They also know that in the film business things can change in an instant — a new part has to be recorded or something has to be remixed, and the deadline is immediate. When that happens and I need anything from a guitar to a mic pre, GC Pro gets it to me quickly.”

Pereira also appreciates what GC Pro has done to support music-based foundations, such as the James Burton Foundation, which supports music education for those in need through guitar donations and music instruction to schools, hospitals and community service organizations. “They do it all and they do it well,” says Pereira. “They’re really a part of my daily life as a musician.”
