On November 16, Bob Heil (pictured), founder and president of Heil Sound Ltd., received a 2007 Parnelli Award for Innovator of the Year. The award was presented at an awards dinner and ceremony during the LDI/ET Live show in Orlando, Fla.

As stated on the Parnelli Awards Website, the awards recognize “pioneering, influential professionals and their contributions” to the live event industry. It is given to individuals who “exemplify the ‘four H’s:’ humanity, humility, honesty and humor.” Heil, one of professional sound’s most prolific inventors, was honored for his work with such acts as The Who, Humble Pie, Joe Walsh and many others.

“I can’t tell you how blown away I am by this,” Heil said after receiving the award from Sound Image president Dave Shadoan. “To me, this is a bigger deal than getting in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because this award is voted on by my peers. It is truly an honor.”

Established in 1966, Heil Sound Ltd. in Fairview Heights, Ill. has developed many professional audio products over the years, and is currently a leader in the design and manufacture of large diaphragm microphones for live sound, broadcast, recording and amateur radio markets.
