At NAMM: Sylvia Massy’s New Coloring Books – Audio Icons & Recording Unhinged

Montclair, NJ – Adult coloring books are all the rage, and research supports the idea that something as simple as coloring has great health benefits: stress relief and increased focus and creativity. Exactly what many musicians and producers need! They don’t necessarily want to color in flowers or mandalas, but how about coloring the heroes of the recording industry, like Dave Pensado, Rick Rubin, and Bruce Swedien?

Sylvia Massy, acclaimed author of Recording Unhinged: Creative and Unconventional Music Recording Techniques, has illustrated two coloring books and they will be on display for the first time at the Hal Leonard booth at NAMM (B6720). Tongue-in-cheek, the Audio Icons Unhinged Coloring Book features big-name producers as gods from mythology, and shows famous recording engineers and mixers doing other types of engineering and mix all kinds of things beside music. Definitely a call to color (and think) outside the lines! The second title, Recording Unhinged Coloring Book, shows a collection of Sylvia’s original illustrations, plus some that are not in Recording Unhinged: Creative and Unconventional Music Recording Techniques, including one that if you fold it a certain way, Neil Peart will turn into the drummer from the Stray Cats, Slim Jim Phantom!
