MXL Microphones, the professional audio division of Marshall Electronics, is now shipping the MXL 190 ($149.99 street price) cardioid condenser microphone, which is designed to handle a wide range of recording applications and is available exclusively through Musicians Friend. The mic uses a 6-micron condenser pressure gradient capsule, features a low-noise FET (field-effect transistor) preamp with balanced transformer coupled output, and is internally wired with Mogami cable.
The microphone’s stated frequency response is 20 to 20k Hz. Its custom chamber was tuned to complement the capsule’s response and deliver an open, airy sound that is transparent without being overly bright. For easier level matching, the 190 incorporates a 0/-10dB attenuation switch.
The MXL 190 has a champagne colored finish, includes a shock-mount and ships in a protective metal case.
