CEntrance Announces MicPort 24/96 USB Mic Preamp

CEntrance announced the MicPort 24/96 (price TBA) USB mic preamp, the first in new a line of portable USB products. The tubular, USB powered device plugs into any XLR microphone and instantly transforms it into a recording device. The company recommends MicPort for recording podcasts, vocals or musical instruments in the personal studio or on the road. MicPort is housed in a rugged aluminum chassis and offers a low-noise preamp, 48-volt phantom power, zero-latency monitoring and a stereo headphone jack.

MicPort’s A/D converter delivers 24-bit/96kHz performance under Mac OS X and Windows, including Vista. No driver installation is required—the product is ready to record in just seconds after being plugged into the computer. Analog controls are available for microphone gain and stereo headphone level.

The device does not require an external power supply or batteries. Because it uses standard USB software drivers, MicPort is compatible with most popular recording software, such as Apple GarageBand (Mac) and Cakewalk SONAR (Windows).

CEntrance is demonstrating MicPort this week at Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany. Shipping is expected in June 2007, and the company will announce worldwide pricing at that time.
