Ray Dolby’s Mansion Hits the Market for $5.25M

The home of the late founder of Dolby Labs is for sale.

San Francisco, CA (December 12, 2018)—Usually when we blog about high-end celebrity real estate in PSN, it’s because there’s a sweet home studio involved. This time, we’re highlighting the home of pro audio royalty, Ray Dolby—a four-story mansion in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood that will run you $5.25 million.

The namesake of Dolby Labs, Ray Dolby invented Dolby noise reduction and founded the company that went on to revolutionize cinema and home entertainment audio. While Dolby died in 2013 at the age of 80, he owned the mansion during the last five years of his life, having picked it up for a mere $2.3 million in 2008. Built in 1900, the 3,500 square feet home in the Historic Cottage Row District has four beds and five baths, and has been heavily updated with a new foundation, structural upgrades, home automation and more.

For those who live to be outdoors, there’s multiple decks, a firepit in the sizable backyard, heat lamps, a fountain and more. Also on the house’s outside are solar panels and a Tesla vehicle charging station, because of course.

But who are we kidding? You’re going to spend most of your free time inside the well-appointed 10-seat home Dolby Atmos theater that was built in the freshly dug-out, new ground floor.
