New York, NY (May 2, 2019)—Nominations for this year’s 73 annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards were announced Tuesday, including the nominees in the categories of Sound Design for a Play and Sound Design for a Musical. The annual ceremony highlighting the best of this year’s Broadway season will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, June 9, hosted by James Corden and broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Best Sound Design of a Musical
Peter Hylenski is nominated twice this year—for Beetlejuice and for King Kong. He previously was nominated in the category in 2018 for Once on This Island; 2014 for After Midnight; 2013 for Motown The Musical; 2011 for The Scottsboro Boys; and 2009 for Rock of Ages.
Steve Canyon Kennedy is nominated for Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations. He was previously nominated in the category in 2011 for Catch Me If You Can, and in the Sound Design (Play) category in 2014 for Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.
Drew Levy is nominated for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! This is his first Tony nomination.
Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz are nominated for Hadestown. Steinberg was previously nominated in the category for 2013’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella; this is Paz’s first nomination.
Best Sound Design of a Play
Adam Cork is nominated for Ink. Cork was previously nominated in the category in 2018 for Travesties; 2010 for Red (which he won) and Enron; and in 2008 for Macbeth. In 2010, he was also co-nominated with Lucy Prebble for Enron in the Original Musical Score category.
Scott Lehrer is nominated for To Kill a Mockingbird. He was previously nominated in the category for 2012’s Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, 2010’s A View from the Bridge and 2009’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. He has also been nominated in the past under the Sound Design (Musical) category, for 2018’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, and 2008’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Sound Pacific, which he won.
Fitz Patton is nominated for Choir Boy; this is his first Tony nomination.
Nick Powell is nominated for The Ferryman; this is his first Tony nomination.
Eric Sleichim is nominated for Network; this is his first Tony nomination.
