IK Multimedia Advanced Room Correction System

IK Multimedia’s new ARC (Advanced Room Correction) System ($699; $499 for all registered IK users) is an acoustical room correction plug-in for Mac and Windows Vista/XP in Audio Units, VST and RTAS formats. IK Multimedia has teamed up with Audyssey to provide a package that combines a professionally calibrated measurement microphone, step-by-step measuring software and the plug-in.

The 1/4-inch condenser microphone has an omnidirectional polar pattern, a capsule frequency response of 20 to 16k Hz and a calibrated frequency response (when used with ARC) of 16 to 20k Hz (+/-1.5 dB). Max SPL is 130 dB at 3% THD, and sensitivity is 50 mV/Pa. It also has an electronically balanced transformerless output with an output impedance of 200 ohms.

ARC measurement software features Audyssey’s MultEQ technology, which corrects for both frequency and phase response for multiple points in a room. When used with the ARC System microphone, the software’s measurement precision is reportedly +/-1.5 dB. It requires 48kHz operation for measurements, ASIO Audio Hardware on Windows Vista or XP, and Core Audio on Mac OS X. The software saves its measurements in sets for the ARC System Correction plug-in.

The plug-in has a 32-bit floating-point processor and features a frequency and time correction processor based on MultEQ technology. When used with the ARC System microphone, correction precision is +/-1.5 dB. It supports sampling rates from 32 to 96 kHz, and offers
four target curves and a graphic response display.
