Dr. Ronan Tynan, a member of the Irish Tenors, recently performed at the Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School, (Brooklyn, N.Y.), in which he requested three Neumann KM 184 microphones, provided by Danny Giorlando of Audio Authority.

“When they hired me to do the show, the only thing that I was told they wanted was the [Neumann] KM 84. They wanted three microphones: his voice, a piano and a violin,” said Giorlando, who has been a sound engineer for 25 years and for the past four years has also been stage manager for 75-year-old guitarist and rock ‘n’ roll artist Bo Diddley.

“[Tynan] said that in the recording studio, he uses a Neumann and his recording engineer told him when he’s performing live to use this microphone,” Giorlando explained of the microphone choice. “The one KM 184 on the piano was fine, even though you might usually use two. The one mic picked it up nicely. He was happy with the sound and with me as the engineer. In fact, he was really happy with the whole event.”

The Irish Tenors begin a U.S. tour on July 1. For more information on the Irish Tenors, visit www.irishtenors.com. For more information on Neumann mics, visit www.neumannusa.com.
