MXL Microphones, the professional audio division of Marshall Electronics, announces the MXL 990 USB ($199.95) stereo condenser microphone. With electronics based upon the MXL 990, the new MXL 990 USB features two 20mm gold sputtered capsules in a 90-degree X/Y stereo configuration. It supports USB 1.1 and USB 2, requiring no special drivers and connecting directly to a Mac or PC without an external mic preamp.
The MXL 990 USB has a maximum SPL rating of 137 dB and a 20-20k Hz frequency response. It also provides a 3-position, switchable attenuation pad with settings for 0, -5 and -10 dB. The mic’s digital section features a 16-bit delta sigma A/D converter with sampling rates of 44.1 and 48 kHz. Its capsule is protected by a heavy-duty wire mesh grill with an integrated pop filter. Behind the wire mesh is an LED activity light for orienting the mic toward the sound source.
The MXL 990 USB ships with a travel case, mic stand adapter, shock-mount, 10-foot USB cable, owner’s manual and applications guide.
