Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee web series relies on wireless recording systems provided by Gotham Sound.
New York, NY (February 5, 2014)—Recording the audio for Jerry Seinfeld’s popular Web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, poses a challenge for the show’s crew, since they have to capture the audio with uninterrupted wireless coverage in one take.
The concept the show is simple—comedian Jerry Seinfeld (co-writer and star of the popular 1990s sitcom, Seinfeld) drives a classic car and picks up another celebrity (past episodes include trips with Louis C.K., Tina Fey, Larry David and Jay Leno), takes them for rides around New York City, treats them for coffee, and then takes them back home. Since the show is filmed mainly inside the car, Gotham Sound and Communications had to provide a wireless system that could transmit the sound to a follow car.
Gotham’s Marty Kelly, stationed in the follow car, uses a Sound Devices 744t with Zaxcom TRX900 transmitters for the talent lavs, ensuring that even if the follow car were to get separated from the main talent, the on-board recording function of the Zaxcom transmitters will ensure that recording continues undisturbed. Another sound mixer, with another Sound Devices 744t and redundant RX900 receivers, is stationed at the final destination to make sure the sound is recorded as planned when the main car arrives at the final destination.
