Muncie, IN (February 27, 2019)—Chuck Ainlay and George Massenburg, two founders of the organizations of the METAlliance (Music Engineering and Technical Alliance) will present two events at Ball State University in mid-March—one open to the public and another specifically for BSU students.
On Sunday, March 17, the duo will present a keynote address free and open to the public at 7:30 PM inside Sursa Performance Hall. But on March 18, they will present a recording masterclass/workshop for students from 2-7 PM, making use of the 10,000-square-foot Ball State Music Media Production Studios, and the METAlliance co-founders will take turns producing and engineering to give participants a unique insight into workflow and technique.
With four Grammys, two CMAs and 10 ACM awards, producer/engineer Chuck Ainlay has recorded and/or mixed well over 300 albums, including work with legendary and current Country artists such as George Strait, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris and The Dixie Chicks. Chuck has placed his distinctive production and engineering stamp on projects with mainstream pop artists such as Dire Straits and the near entirety of Mark Knopfler’s solo career, as well as Peter Frampton, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, Jewel, Bob Seger, Pentatonix and Sheryl Crow. His work in immersive audio has resulted in groundbreaking projects such as the 25th anniversary remix of Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive and the Grammy award-winning 20th anniversary remix of the Dire Straits album, Brothers in Arms.

Grammy and TEC Award-winner George Massenburg is a producer, recording engineer and designer of audio equipment who has participated in the creation of more than 400 albums. He has won Grammys as both a producer and as an engineer, and in 1998 was awarded a Grammy for Technical Achievement for a lifetime of contributions to the art and science of recording. Massenburg’s discography includes seven Little Feat albums; seven Earth, Wind & Fire albums; 13 Linda Ronstadt albums; and albums with Journey, James Taylor, Jennifer Warnes, Herbie Hancock and Ricky Skaggs, among others. He also created that mainstay of the recording process, the parametric equalizer.

Previous METAlliance events in Hollywood, Nashville and New York City have provided intense workshops covering every aspect of recording from mic technique and recording basic tracks to critical listening and advanced mixing. “These are real sessions and we are making real records,” commented METAlliance co-founder Al Schmitt.
