Blue Sky International recently introduced the Universal Sub 8 (US 8), a way to add low-frequency extension to any existing pair of “satellite” monitors. The US 8 subwoofer has been designed to complement a wide range of satellite speakers from any manufacturer. In addition, the Universal Sub 8 can be combined with Blue Sky’s SAT 5 to form the ProDesk™ 2.1 monitoring system.
Featuring a high-excursion cast-aluminum frame 8-inch driver with a 2-inch voicecoil, aluminum cone and a vented motor structure for low power compression, the Universal Sub 8 has a dedicated 100-watt discrete symmetrical bipolar amplifier for low-distortion true RMS power. With a frequency response of 35 Hz to 200 Hz ±3 dB (anechoic) and a typical in-room response of 20 Hz to 200 Hz (for a 3,000 cubic foot room), the Universal Sub 8 has range. Measuring 13x16x15.7-inches (HxWxD) and weighing 48.5 pounds, the subwoofer also features solid MDF construction and four isolation feet.
The Universal Sub 8 features a comprehensive owner’s manual, which includes both a Quick Set Up Guide and an Expanded Calibration Guide.
Blue Sky’s US 8 features analog-balanced XLR input and output connections. Sub In and Sub Out XLR connectors allow multiple US 8s to be chained together for more low-frequency impact and power. In addition, the Universal Sub 8 has a built-in stereo bass management system with dual independently tunable state-variable highpass and lowpass filters (50 Hz to 160 Hz) with fourth-order slopes—users can adjust the crossover for the best system response with their satellite monitors. Rear panel functions include a Subwoofer Gain control and a voltage selector switch (115V or 230V).
