CME’s WIDI X-8 USB MIDI Interface Now Shipping

CME is shipping the WIDI X-8 ($249.99), a full duplex wireless system for MIDI and USB communication that is Mac OS X and Windows XP class-compliant for plug-and-play operation. The WIDI X-8 has a built-in USB MIDI interface and comes with two identical MIDI/USB devices that operate in four different ways.

Each unit can work independently as a stand-alone USB-to-MIDI interface. The WIDI X-8 also offers three operating modes: MIDI/RF, USB/RF and USB/MIDI. With both units in MIDI/RF mode, a keyboard or MIDI controller can be connected wirelessly to rack modules, samplers or other keyboards. With both units in USB/RF mode, USB data is transmitted between devices, allowing wireless communication between two computers in different areas. Lastly, the two units can serve as a wireless interface with one unit in USB/RF mode and the other in MIDI/RF mode.

The WIDI X-8 operates on a 2.4GHz ISM license-free band and offers a transmission range of up to 262 feet (unobstructed). Up to 64 pairs can operate at the same time via 64 channels. The units can be powered by two AA batteries, an AC power adapter (DC 5V) or USB bus-powered.

CME is based in China and distributed in the U.S. by Yamaha Corporation of America. For more information, visit www.cme-pro.com.
