In order to offer a global solution and integrate all of its sound and picture activities into one unified fully network-based operation, French post-production company Dubbing Brothers chose Merging Technologies’ high-availability Network architecture, Pyramix Virtual studio and VCube Video HD recorder/player systems. More than 12 Pyramix and 30 VCubes have been supplied for the main Paris facility already.

With teams of technicians and premises in France, Italy, Belgium and Germany, Dubbing Brothers offers expertise in all areas of post-production, with the main Paris facility catering for in-house dubbing of 35mm, TV movies, live action series, animation videos and CD-Rom. The company also offers post-synchronization, subtitling, post-production, optical transfer and storage around the clock.

The Merging Technologies offered Dubbing Brothers a straightforward read and write compatibility with a large number of existing audio and video formats, and would allow future use of HD video in film post-production with adequate playback and storage capabilities. All equipment had to be interoperable through an open-standard Network where multi-Terabyte central storage and servers from Transtec were integrated.

Technical Manager for Dubbing Brothers, Pol Simon explained, “With respect to the above elements, Pyramix Virtual Studio for audio workstations and VCube for video players were the solution of choice, all integrated and connected together via a high availability central server and storage system. In fact, as these workstations are available in several configurations, Pyramix and VCube meet our efficiency requirements in each situation, including regular daily tasks such as ingest, editing, multitrack recording and file conversion, to name a few.”

Installation of Pyramix workstations was scaled over a period of time and began with the replacement of mix-down systems. Following that step, the Pyramix and VCubes were integrated into the main auditoriums and installation was then extended to editing, duplication and subtitling rooms.

Philippe Taïeb, president and CEO of Dubbing Brothers remarked that, “Ultimately, all of our existing Studios in Paris and in the greater Paris area, as well as our facilities in both Belgium and Italy will also benefit from this networked technology.”

Together with SCV, French distributor of Merging products, Pierre Laporte, manager of diversity said, “As one of the first companies that has realized the potential of what Merging was after when they first showed us the VCube at an early stage of development, we are proud to deliver such an ensemble of leading and extremely innovative products to Dubbing Brothers. Merging’s responsiveness has been a great asset to warrant a smooth and seamless transition to a radically new tapeless audio and video environment”.

Merging Technologies founder and President, Claude Cellier said “Companies like Dubbing Brothers represent the very best in European audio post, so we are naturally delighted to be selected to provide a global solution which integrates perfectly with Dubbing’s extensive workflow development path, both now and in the future.”
