The Dallas Sound Lab, one of Texas’ premier recording facilities,
has expanded its MediaTech Institute to Austin and Houston. Since 1980,
major film producers and songwriters have descended on the Dallas Sound
Lab facility to utilize its state-of-the-art technology for film,
television and recording products including Destiny’s Child, Buddy Miles,
The Imperials, Paula Abdul, ZZ Top, Leon Russell, Baywatch, City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold, Robocop and Titanic to name a few. The Austin MediaTech Institute is housed by the 6,000 square foot Arlyn Studio considered one of the most prestigious facilities in this part of the country. The Houston MediaTech Institute is housed in the world class Sunrise Sound Studios.

The MediaTech Institute offers one year programs with classes on Audio Engineering and
Studio Techniques, Producing, Songwriting, Audio for Television and Film,
Live Sound Reinforcement, Show Production, and a Business of Music
program. Because students of all ages receive hands-on real world
experience, they quickly bypass the traditional route of months or even
years of unpaid interning. “It was not an easy road to success for me
because many aspects of the business I had to learn the hard way. I want
to make it easier for the next generation of Texas artists and provide a
comprehensive education to break into the business”, states founder
Russell Whitaker, a 25-year veteran in the entertainment and recording
industry. “We take a world class studio and bring the academics to it,”
states Whitaker.
