Metric Halo Introduces 2d Processing Architecture for Mobile I/O

Metric Halo unveiled the 2d Processing Architecture for Mobile I/O at the 123rd AES Convention in New York City. An integral part of the new Mobile I/O ULN-2 and Mobile I/O 2882 products, the 2d Processing architecture expands and enhances the fundamental processing, routing and mixing engine of Metric Halo’s Mobile I/O FireWire audio interfaces.

2d Processing is also available for existing Mobile I/O 2882 and ULN-2 units as the 2d Card upgrade board.

Metric Halo Mobile I/O 2882

The 2d Card is based upon a new, next-generation DSP that provides an increase in DSP power for mixing and processing. The new DSP has 5.5 times the available processing power of the original Metric Halo +DSP implementation and includes a SIMD engine that enables an additional two-times increase in power for certain operations, like mixing.

The 2d Card also includes ADAT implementation, including optical S/PDIF support (independently switchable on both input and output, supporting a variety of I/O configurations) and asynchronous SRC for the optical S/PDIF input.

Version 5 of the MIO Driver and MIO Console software, delivered with the 2d Card, provides direct access to the power of Mobile I/O and the 2d Processing Architecture. MIO Console V. 5 features a new consolidated mixer as well as unified control of all the mixing and processing resources of all connected Mobile I/O hardware. The consolidated mixer also provides inserts for +DSP plug-ins. The new driver provides a unified view of the hardware to Core Audio clients, and allows users to create consolidated multi-box systems.

V. 5 allows you to route any processed audio directly to the computer without stealing channels from physical I/O. The new mixer also provides one-click access to routing printed tracks to the host.

Metric Halo Mobile I/O ULN-2

With the introduction of the 2d Card, Metric Halo is rolling out new versions of the 2882 and ULN-2 FireWire audio interfaces. Available now, these new units come with the 2d Card pre-installed.

The new Mobile I/O 2882 ($1,895) provides eight analog inputs with preamps, eight analog outputs, one stereo headphone output, ADAT I/O (switchable to optical S/PDIF with SRC), AES-S/PDIF I/O with SRC, full front panel metering, word clock I/O, and integrated 2d Processing. The Mobile I/O ULN-2 ($1,695) provides two analog inputs with preamps, two analog outputs, one stereo control room/headphone output with integrated individual level controls, ADAT I/O (switchable to optical S/PDIF with SRC), AES/SPDIF I/O with SRC, full front panel metering, word clock I/O and integrated 2d Processing.

The 2d Card is also available as an upgrade for all existing Mobile I/O units. For 2882 and 2882+DSP units, the upgrade cost is $400 (user-install). For ULN-2 and ULN-2+DSP, the upgrade cost is $550 (including a new rear panel and ADAT I/O ports). Factory-install options are available, as well as Metric Halo’s new extended warranty program.
