Canadian Country Music Awards ‘All Ears’ With Soundcraft Vi6™

REGINA, SK, Canada – November 2007 — For the past 26 years, the annual broadcast of the Canadian Country Music Awards has recognized and celebrated the best in Canadian country music. For this year’s event held at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Toronto-based P.A. Plus Productions chose to recognize another outstanding performer, the Soundcraft Vi6™ digital live sound console, which was deployed as the dedicated monitor desk for the entire show.

Providing monitor mixes for a dozen fully live guest performances as well as a house band setup, the Soundcraft Vi6 offered the perfect configuration for the evening. “I utilized all 64 input faders and all 35 mix busses simultaneously, and, out of the box, I would be hard pressed to find another digital console in this class capable of providing such flexibility,” said P.A. Plus Systems Engineer Mark Radu. “The Vi6 was easy to navigate, simple to program, and the routing was quick and intuitive. The full compliment of available dynamics on every input and output are both functional and accurate while the eight independent Lexicon® effects engines are everything one would expect from a standalone Lexicon in terms of both control and performance.”

The monitor system for the 2007 CCMA show consisted of 16 stereo in-ear-monitor mixes. After soundchecks and rehearsals of the live performances, the show’s producers and director relayed many positive comments from the talent back to the P.A. Plus crew concerning the incredible sonic quality of the IEM mixes. “That’s a compliment I attribute to the superb sounding microphone preamps and smooth, accurate EQ section,” noted Radu, who then added, “After using Soundcraft’s digital console in an exacting environment such as this, I can understand why other Canadian artists, like Barenaked Ladies and Diana Krall [Dave Lawler, Docktrdave Audio], are actually purchasing their very own Vi6s.”

Hosted by Paul Brandt, this year’s lineup of CCMA performers included Doc Walker, Jim Cuddy, Brad Johner, Carolyn Dawn Johnson with Jimmy Rankin, Emerson Drive, George Canyon, Shane Yellowbird, Aaron Pritchett, Jessie Farrell, and a ‘super-group’ of Canada’s top musicians headed up by Tom McKillip. Initially broadcast on CBC Television across Canada, the awards show also had encore airings on CMT Canada, as well as subsequent airings on the Great American Country (GAC) network in the U.S. and Country Music Channel (CMC) in Australia.
