DAS Audio Powers the Actions for Change Food and Music Festival Fundraiser

Parkland, FL – December 2018… On Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Pine Trails Park, the Actions for Change Food and Music Festival Fundraiser took place. Born out of the tragedy of the February 14th Stoneman Douglas shooting in Parkland, FL, its goals were to provide healing by bringing love, light, and hope through the arts, register people to vote, raise national awareness about gun violence, and raise funds for organizations committed to helping all our nation’s youth. There was a good mix of speeches in addition to both live and recorded music to keep the action going and, to ensure the best audio performance, a loudspeaker system drawn from the Aero Series 2, Action, Road, and UX catalogs of DAS Audio was utilized.

Dynamic Productions USA of Orangeburg, NY, a full-service events production company that handles sound, staging, lighting, rigging and related services for the special events market, was contracted to handle the sound reinforcement requirements for the festival. Brian Rosenblum, the company’s President and CEO oversees sales and technical operations for the company. He discussed the Actions for Change project and his decision to deploy the DAS Audio equipment.

“As an outdoor event with an audience of approximately 3,500 people, it was crucial that we provide a setup that not only had the ability to deliver both a high level of speech intelligibility and solid music reproduction, we had to ensure even coverage throughout the area,” Rosenblum explained. “To accomplish this, we deployed a sound system consisting of DAS Audio Aero 40 active, 3-way line array enclosures, Aero 20A active compact line array enclosures, Action 12A point source loudspeakers, along with UX-218 and UX-221 subwoofers.”

The primary setup involved ten Aero 40 enclosures per the left and right sides—flown on motors from truss. For front fill, they double stacked two Aero 20 cabinets per side angled in towards the center, so they wouldn’t block the sight lines. The crew also used a combination of Action 12 and Road 15 enclosures for monitor wedges, along with a single LX118 as a drum sub. Low frequency support was achieved with six UX-221cabinets per side—two stacks of three enclosures each—in a cardioid configuration. Further, the Dynamic Productions crew used eight UX-218 sub bass enclosures across the front of the stage in a mono block configuration. Rosenblum added, “We actually used a few different configurations, depending on the needs of the artist performing.”

When queried about the attributes that made this combination of DAS Audio loudspeakers so well-suited for this project, Rosenblum offered the following comments, “The Aero system’s horizontal dispersion characteristics are terrific, which helped us ensure consistent coverage throughout the audience area. Equally important is the clarity these loudspeakers produce. It was absolutely crucial that the audience be able to understand the various people who were speaking and the new FIR filters for these loudspeakers are excellent in their ability to produce a very high level of speech intelligibility. It’s also important to note that the DAS rigging hardware, the rain jacket protectors on the rear of the enclosures by the connectors, and a variety of other small but important design characteristics make these loudspeakers easy to deploy in just about any scenario.”

Given the capabilities of today’s high-end sound reinforcement systems and the flexibility of system tuning parameters, etc., quality customer support services are crucial. In this regard, Rosenblum had high praise for DAS Audio, “Without DAS Audio’s excellent customer service and technical support, we would not be able to ensure that our inventory is always ready to go at a moment’s notice. Having developed a relationship with the team at DAS has only strengthened our commitment to continuing our use their product line.”

Reflecting on the outcome of the Actions for Change event, Rosenblum said, “At the end of the day, we were able to contribute to the community in a manner that, we believe, helped make a real difference. We used DAS products to help give back in a way that promoted healing and education. Sometimes a speaker is just a collection of wires and magnets, other times it can be a powerful tool to spread knowledge and understanding.”
