DPA Microphones, manufacturer of a wide range of products for broadcast, film, studio and live recording, has been granted Music Engineering & Technology Alliance certification for the DPA 4011-TL transformerless cardioid condenser microphone.

Successor to the legendary B&K/DPA 4011 cardioid microphone, the 4011-TL continues the DPA heritage with its uncompromising sound quality. State-of-the-art components are hand-selected to provide optimum transparency, accuracy and extremely low distortion. The microphone has been designed to handle extremely high SPL’s of up to 158dB before clipping.

“My 4011’s travel with me to every recording session,” remarked METAlliance founding director Ed Cherney. “I originally got my 4011’s to deal with a drummer who would hit his hi-hat cymbal so hard that most mics that I tried would just get overloaded. I needed something that was directional, clear and could handle level, and the 4011’s can. I now use my 4011’s to capture acoustic guitars, mandolins, woodwinds, percussion, piano, and more. The craftsmanship is spectacular. Not only do I use them to capture the essence of an instrument, they’re also good for getting out of jams.”

George Massenburg explained, “The 4011 has been part of my standard recording kit for a very long time now. For what I hear, it’s hard for me to imagine improving on it for specific instruments like conga and acoustic bass. A great mic. A great tradition.”

Multi-Grammy(r) winner Chuck Ainlay commented, “I can’t imagine tracking an album without them. Just by placing the 4011s on a few key instruments can influence the overall feeling of quality in the entire recording. You can feel the quality just by handling them.” Al Schmitt added, “It’s simply a very good microphone which I use all the time.”

DPA Microphones began in 1992 when Brüel & Kjaer, Denmark’s venerable measurement equipment manufacturer, spun off its specialist pro audio division to former employees Morten Støve and Ole Brøsted Sørensen, designer of the microphones. DPA Microphones’ philosophy is based on a commitment to provide audio professionals with microphone solutions of the highest professional caliber. The result is an ever-expanding product portfolio of microphones and accessories that offer true professional solutions.

Established in 2005 by renowned music producers and recording engineers Chuck Ainlay, Ed Cherney, Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg, Phil Ramone, Elliot Scheiner, and Al Schmitt, the METAlliance is a collaborative community that allows producers, engineers and audio technology manufacturers to work together to ensure the highest standards of audio production.

Alongside platforms for research and development, standardization and education, METAlliance also works closely with manufacturers to evaluate and certify products that offer the highest levels of quality in the recording chain. To date, only a handful of products have achieved this accolade.
