The smooth alternative

Initially launched in August of 2022, the MA-D Dynamic Microphone is the result of years of development by celebrated microphone designer David Royer. It is designed as a major step forward in the world of dynamic microphones that takes ample advantage of modern design techniques and component choice to produce a dynamic microphone with a smoother, more hi-fi frequency response flattering to vocalists and a range of instrument types. “Early dynamic microphones were designed to solve a problem and battle against the often poor sound reinforcement that was common in the 1950s and 60s,” said Mojave Audio President Dusty Wakeman. “As a result they were designed with frequency peaks that – although aiding intelligibility – colored the sound tremendously and produced a ‘boxy’ sonic effect.”

“What makes the MA-D special is that it is designed to take complete advantage of modern sound reinforcement systems – which are significantly more advanced in the modern era – to offer a fuller frequency response, and much better transients which are infinitely more pleasurable to listen to and perform with. We call it ‘the smooth alternative’, and we’re honored to be a finalist for it in this year’s TEC Awards.”
