Vienna, Austria (October 1, 2026)—Austrian Audio is launching its latest microphone, the OC616, a multi-pattern large-diaphragm condenser based around the company’s new CKR12 capsule.
Tuned for “a clear, direct, assertive character,” according to the company, the OC616 can handle 157 dB max SPL and sports a 134 dB dynamic range. That allows it to make the most of five selectable polar patterns (omni, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure eight), three switchable high-pass filters, and two switchable pads (-10 dB / -20 dB).

Designed with an aim of providing versatility, the mic is appropriate for a broad number of uses, such as capturing quiet vocals and voiceovers; detailed recording of acoustic instruments to high-SPL sources like guitar amps, brass and live drum overheads. The OC616 is also appropriate for stereo recording setups, due to its multi-pattern performance being suited to techniques such as Mid/Side, and room miking in general, as its dynamic range and open character are suitable for capturing space and ambience.

The new microphone is built around the company’s Open Acoustic Technology, engineered to eliminate internal reflections and acoustic interference before they reach the capsule. The mic makes use of Austrian’s new CKR12 capsule, hand-built in Vienna, which is edge-terminated and uses a modern ceramic isolator design.
The OC616 Studio Set—which includes the microphone, OCS6 elastic suspension mount, OCH8 mic clamp and an MSC616 carrying case—is currently available for pre-order, running $749.
