World-renowned EastWest Studios have opened their reborn Studio 5 with a classic 64-channel SSL G+ console and a wealth of new and old gear from Vintage King Audio. Main monitors are EastWest Custom Augspurger design in a spacious control room remodeled by chief engineer and project manager Lawrence Ethan Malchose.

“My goal with this room,” Malchose explained,”was to create an environment that embraced the spirit of this building by implementing tried and true equipment choices, the SSL G+ and custom Augsberger mains for example, and dovetail that with the workflow and aesthetics expected in a new studio. The combination of new and vintage gear makes this room as good as it gets technically, and it’s a really comfortable space to work in.”

Additional gear provided by Vintage King Audio includes a pair of vintage DBX 160 VUs, GML 8200 2 Channel, 5 Band Parametric EQ, SPL Transient Designer 4, ADR Compex 760 by Q2, Chandler TG1, API 500 series rack loaded with various EQ, Bryston Amplification, and a Headphone Monitoring System by HEAR.

Vintage King’s west coast sales manager Jeffrey Ehrenberg commented, “Chief engineer Lawrence Malchose came to Vintage King with a very specific equipment list they needed for their new mix room and we were honored to be involved in this significant project. With our eclectic blend of vintage, new and boutique audio equipment, we were able to find everything they wanted and deliver it on time and on budget.”

EastWest Studios manager Candace Stewart summed it up: “We have been contemplating for a long time getting an SSL back in the building. As a booker it’s really important that I be able to offer many options for our clients, and ideally to keep them in the building for every aspect of the recording process. Jeff at Vintage King totally understood our need to both appeal to our loyal analog loving clients as well as those folks who like to mix in the box. VK’s service was fast and friendly and they were flexible when we changed our minds and modified our choice of certain key pieces of gear.”
