NUCOMM WINS PATENT FOR ITS COST-EFFECTIVE DIGITAL TRANSMISSION OVER MICROWAVE ANALOG LINK CONCEPT

Hackettstown, NJ, May 21, 2008 – Nucomm has just been awarded a patent for “Digital Transmission of Broadcast Signals, including HDTV signals, over a Microwave Analog Link, Patent Number US 7,359,450. This patent covers Nucomm’s development of its signature Analog Coder product line, which allows digital signals including ones for HD Television, to be transmitted over an existing conventional analog microwave link at data rates as high as 30 Mbps along with several Analog Audio Subcarriers.

“This newly patented method is another example of Nucomm’s mission to develop affordable solutions for today’s broadcasters, says Nucomm CEO Dr. John Payne. “Prior to our newly patented concept, TV stations and other providers were left with no choice but to replace their analog microwave links with digital microwave ones at considerable expense. With our new Analog Coder strategy, which consists of two 1RU boxes, one box can be placed at the transmitter end while the second box can be based at the receiver end of the link, eliminating the need for replacement.

Nucomm first discovered the advantages of this unique approach when Kansas-based KAKE-TV tested the company’s Analog Coder invention to pass HDTV signals over 26 analog repeater links. Had KAKE-TV been required to replace the 26 analog links with new digital ones, the station would have incurred more than $1 million in expenses.
