Miami Mixer Adds ISO-L8Rs

Freelance recording and mixing engineer Colin Fichman has installed IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R adjustable acoustic isolation speaker stands for his near field monitors and subwoofer at his home-based studio in Miami, FL.

Miami, FL (September 16, 2014)—Freelance recording and mixing engineer Colin Fichman has installed IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R adjustable acoustic isolation speaker stands for his near field monitors and subwoofer at his home-based studio in Miami, FL.

“I have a room with a new Mac Pro, Genelec monitors and UAD plug-ins, among many other pieces of equipment,” says Fichman, who has worked with Rick Ross, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, The Game, Fat Joe and numerous others, and is also chief engineer for Miami-based rap super-producers Cool and Dre at their Record Room Studios. He also offers his engineering and mixing services to an international clientele via his web site, ColinFichman.com.

“After setting up the ISO-L8R stands, I was shocked at how well they completely transformed my Genelec monitors—which I already thought sounded great. The low end, especially, was really amazing. I couldn’t believe how much extra noise I was used to hearing before. My speakers were already on speaker stands that are designed to isolate, but the difference was still night and day.”

The IsoAcoustics stands immediately improved the translation of his mixes. “After I installed the stands, both my clients and I noticed that it took far less revisions for us to be happy with the mix after listening on different systems,” says Fichman, whose credits also include projects with DJ Khaled, French Montana, Jason Derulo, Future, Trina, Teyana Taylor, Jerimih, Yo Gotti, Ca$h out, Benji Madden, Schoolboy Q, Nore, Nipsy Hustle, Reek Da Villan, Gunplay and K. Rose.

His project studio control room is acoustically treated, he reports. “But really the UADs and the IsoAcoustics stands are what give me the confidence to work in the box in this environment, and my clients only hear my work getting better. Everything just sounds generally clearer, especially in the low end, which as we all know is problematic in project studios.”
