Harman International Industries has accepted an invitation from the Recording Academy to serve as an Official Sound Partner to the Grammy Awards. The multi-year partnership, which builds upon a successful relationship that began earlier this year, will commence during the 52nd Annual Grammy Week festivities in January 2010.

“This partnership is an exciting opportunity to continue our support for the outstanding artists and technicians whose talents bring out the best in Harman systems and to delight our mutual stakeholders,” says Dinesh C. Paliwal, Harman’s chairman, president and CEO. “Many of our own employees began their careers on the stage or in the recording studio, and their passion shows in Harman’s products. We look forward to working closely with the Recording Academy both to recognize the contributions of music professionals and to further advance the science of quality sound.”

“The performance of Harman’s audio systems and the passion of its people are integral to the industry and artists we serve,” says Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards. “Faithfully capturing and reproducing fine music is an art form in itself, and we are grateful for Harman’s longstanding contributions in bringing premium sound to our mutual constituents.”

The partnership was announced on October 20 during a gathering at the new Grammy Museum at L.A. Live, which prominently features Harman professional audio systems. Portnow also presented Harman with a special proclamation that recognizes the company’s support and decades of contribution to audio technologies. Beyond its deep roots in the recording and music industries, Harman is no stranger to the Grammy Awards. Harman’s JBL unit is the first and only loudspeaker manufacturer to be awarded a Technical Grammy Award, in 2005.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition from the Recording Academy as one of the industry’s preeminent forces in musical excellence,” says Paliwal. “Harman audio systems are privileged to perform with many of the Academy’s talented musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals, and we are humbled by their confidence.”

Harman once again will sponsor the Recording Academy/Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala, hosted by the legendary music executive who has managed several prominent record labels and has himself earned three Grammy Awards. Harman will also be a participating sponsor at the official Grammy viewing parties (which will be held throughout Hard Rock Café locations across the country), the annual MusiCares Person of the Year Tribute, and the official Grammy Celebration after-party.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
